Add A Custom Domain to Blogger

Today, I want to write about my experience with adding a custom domain to blogger.  It's actually easy.

Please note that the photos are after the fact.  I really wasn't thinking that other people out there might be interested in how to do this; so, I didn't take a snapshot of the before state.

The first step is obvious or maybe not.  You need to start the process with Blogger and not with your domain provider.  You can point or forward your custom domain to blogger, but you won't be able to mask the forward.  Another words, you can go to your URL by typing your domain, but once there, it will show "yourname.blogger.com".  Just forwarding your custom domain is not really a benefit to you.

So, go to Blogger first and down to settings.  Under settings, basics is where all the magic happens.

What you will see under "Basics" will not look like this.  This is what it will look like when you are finished.

What you will see is an option to setup a 3rd Party URL, and that's exactly what you want to do.  In the box, type in YourUrl.com, net or other extension.  It shows an error with some BLah, Blah stuff, but basically doesn't do anything.  You'll have to put the prefix of "www".YourUrl.??? to make it generate some numbers and letters.  When it does, this is your CNAME information that you need to put in at the Hosting Site that you bought your Domain.

Here is where it can look different for each Domain Provider.  You will have to log in and find where you can "Manage Your DSN".  That's where you will add two "CNAME record" that Google provided you.

This is what it looks like for the Domain Provider Hover

Good luck and if you have any questions, leave them in the comments.
